Pulp Alley at Call to Arms. Part 3.

So now Michael had broken through into the cavern beneath the Pyramid, we all took turns throwing challenges at him to slow him down to give us a chance to catch up. We had also agreed to replace our casualties with like for like, by throwing against the health rating of each one. These were very useful as we were dropping like flies. Ray was held up by a single Mummy and lost a few men jumping  across instead of fighting. I worked my way down from the top of the Pyramid with just my labours and Hugo being held up, while the others broke through by jumping down a wall avoiding a melee successfully. Tyrone was last into the crypt which was good timing as we were all fighting the Mummies before going for the last Plot Point.
We used a second pack of cards for events in the Crypt as we were running out of them in the first pack. The characters had to fight their way past Mummies which the other players directed at them.

We all took turns going for the last point and failed turn after turn until Tyrone took it with an Ally, who was an Egyptian expert funnily enough. We decided that we should finish there rather than fight to get out with the loot as it was about 3pm and time to pack up.

We had great fun all weekend and found very little need to look at the rule book. I'd happily do it again but just not yet. It was hard work packing away all the figures so maybe I can host an event when my new gaming room is built.

Pulp Alley at Call to Arms 2014. Part 2.

Four different gangs arrived to seek the treasure of the hidden Tombs (sorry I'm not good at doing flowery prose). Ray had a group of British Archaeologists. Michael a group of Local Egyptian Cultists, Tyrone used my British Archaeologists (named the Cooper family) and I commanded a Group of Nazi's seeking loot.
The Cultists started midway down the table and proceeded to create havoc attacking everyone. The British started on the left hand side on the beach road, I started from the left side of the beach while Tyrone started on the right hand side of the beach. We had a few shots at each other mainly designed to slow each other down but nothing too serious. Michael attempted to take the plot point in the fortress but found a things a bit hot and withdrew but took the point in front of the band. I snuck into the Jail and took a point without any opposition. Ray then took the point on the hangman's scaffold while Tyrone took the one in the fortress.
So now we were able to recruit some labourers and proceed to the Pyramid.

My leader winning the point after failures by the other two members.
The Tardis arrived moments later.
My labourers being lead by Hugo.
My reinforcements waiting for the call.
The Cultists locating a hidden entrance.
Cultists labourers in the tunnel.

Tyrones labours,
Rays reinforcements/casualties.
Michaels reinforcements/casualties.

Day 2
Michael was first getting a good lead and broke through a hidden entrance in the bar and went underground into a tunnel. Ray was next and gained entrance by the left hand positioned needle monument. Tyrone was lagging a bit as he was trying to hold me up costing us both some time. I managed to run to the front entrance (tourist entrance according to Tyrone), I chose to shoot the guard just because I could (being a Nazi), while the others had negotiated their way around them. Tyrone had also made his way into the right hand positioned crypt. We all had to pass tests that other players had thrown at them as well as the Peril points.

Pulp Alley at Call to Arms 2014. Set up.

We did not come up with a name for this other than "Pulp Alley Demo game". I had thought of "Carrion Up the Nile" but never got around to suggesting it to the others.
We had been looking forward to this Demo game for most of the year. Its been lots of work painting up all the little bits and pieces which I think makes a Demo game great fun. All my gangs were already painted so it should have been easy but I wanted to do some extras. I will first post some photos of the game setup and some of the extra bits. Ray also painted extra figures and made most of the town buildings, as well as the two gangs that he and his Son Michael were using. I think Michael painted his undead reinforcements.

Dr Who kept appearing at certain parts of the game but did not have any effect on play.

Five floating skulls were spread around. The first four enabled labourers to be recruited which meant that you could enter the Pyramid, via either an underground tunnel or the front door. The fifth was the winning Plot Point.

Soft Plastic disaster.

I don't often have a problem with this hobby which cannot be solved by a bit of research on the internet. However after trying to glue some plastic figures to GW bases to use as markers, which would keep track of points earned in our Pulp Alley Demo game. I have not found a glue which works well enough to handle the figures. So far I have tried Tamiya thick cement but several figures just fell off. I then used superglue to rebase these, but several more fell off including some of the superglued ones. I then tried PVA with similar results.

I undercoated the figures with spray paint and then tried to touch up with hand painting. However the first few figures just popped off the bases. I then flicked all the figures off the bases and gave up in frustration.

I have heard that a special Plastic's glue is available but have not had a chance to go around the DIY stores yet. I thought I could use card bases as an alternative but I really like the look of the square plinths as I wanted to make these look like tourist souvenirs.

Egyptian Pulp items finished.

I have just finished a few items for my Pulp collection.

A couple of Gong farmers and a man on a bed of nails from Eureka.

Three Ladies from the Egyptian Harem Kickstarter and one from Reaper. (You can see the difference in size which is why I did not buy anything else from the Kickstarter).

A driver and passenger from RAFM which must be really old Bob Murch sculpts. The driver is quite poor and needed bulking out with Greenstuff and a new head. The other figure is really nice and up to his current standards. These are to go into a Truck similar to the one in the Indiana Jones Movie.

I also made a couple of additions to fit into my underground temple out of Hirst Arts molds. I am sure I used the same paints and wash that I had used on my earlier build, but the colour has come out different! It may need another coat of the wash?
